The “down dog”. I was not even old enough to differentiate between “down” and “under”. I meant to say the “under dog”. This is the response my mom gave me when I asked her, “You’ve known me the longest, what was present in me from the earliest of ages?” And her reply, “Your sense of humor and your concern for the “down dog”.”

Now, my sense of humor can be a cultivated taste. And my heart for the “down dog”? That morphs between individual compassion, righteous indignation against abuse and mistreatment, and a constant quest to try to be part of bettering the world versus harming my neighbor. I’ve learned a lot, and still have a lot to learn.

If this sounds anything like you, maybe you’d like to join me and many of our neighbors for the “The Social Justice Bible Challenge”. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month from 7:30 – 9:00 PM in the Parish Hall of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 193 Old Greenville Hwy, Clemson. Everyone is welcome.

God’s peace & hope, Pastor Jon
